Amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran, reports have spread that the son of Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, participated in diplomatic processes conducted behind the scenes. This factor is said to have been decisive in reaching a peace agreement.
According to information from Axios, Mojtaba Khamenei participated in the negotiations not directly but in writing through intermediaries for security reasons. Sources emphasize that it was precisely his consent that paved the way for an agreement to stop a two-week ceasefire.
At the same time, sharp statements from U.S. President Donald Trump towards Iran have been resonating, even including threats to "destroy an entire civilization." However, active diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran have continued during this very period.
Steve Witkoff, Abbas Araghchi, and other international mediators participated in the negotiations. Diplomats from Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt played an important role in softening the disagreements.
Recently, J.D. Vance also joined the process, coordinating the negotiations. After a "mutual understanding" was formed between the parties, Trump approved the agreement and military actions were halted.
According to sources, Mojtaba Khamenei's participation is being assessed as a "major result." At the same time, there are various views regarding the condition and involvement in decision-making of his father, Iran's Supreme Leader.
Currently, the parties are preparing for official negotiations. Preliminary information suggests that broad-ranging meetings could begin on April 10th. However, the contradictions between the U.S. and Iran still persist, and the possibility of the situation escalating again cannot be ruled out.
