U.S. President Donald Trump blamed NATO for not supporting Washington in the conflict related to Iran. He announced this after a private meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social page: "NATO was not there when we needed it, and if we need it again, they won't be there either."
At the same time, Mark Rutte described his meeting with Trump as "very open" in an interview with CNN. According to him, some disagreements were also observed during the conversation.
It is reported that ahead of the talks scheduled for Wednesday, Trump also considered the idea of leaving the transatlantic military alliance. This was due to the fact that some NATO countries did not support the initiative to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. This issue could affect global oil prices.
In recent weeks, Trump has mentioned the possibility of leaving the 32-member NATO alliance several times.
