The Daily Star reports that at least 18 people were killed after a passenger bus plunged into the Padma River in central Bangladesh.
According to information, the bus lost control while boarding a ferry and fell into the river, carrying approximately 40 passengers. 11 passengers managed to get to the shore independently.
Rescuers retrieved the bus from the river six hours after the incident. According to data from the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense, 23 bodies were recovered from the bus: 11 women, 7 men, and 5 children.
The district administration has formed a five-member committee to determine the cause of the tragic incident.
