The first stage of 100 "Yutong" electric buses has been delivered to Samarkand. Each has 30 seats and a total capacity for 75 passengers. These buses operate on 9 city routes and serve 70 thousand passengers daily.
A depot has been organized for the electric buses on a 4-hectare area. The capability to simultaneously charge and service 50 buses has been created. The closed parking area also has technical service and mobile repair equipment.
The project's second stage plans the purchase of another 250 electric buses. 120 million dollars in funding will be attracted from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This will reduce fuel consumption by 32 thousand liters and harmful gas emissions by 27 tons.
President Mirziyoyev said: "To increase the economic sustainability of this sector, we must create the Samarkand experience in training specialists who will service and repair these electric buses."
Furthermore, the head of state also inspected the tunnel built at the intersection of Gagarin and Rudaki streets in the city. It is 600 meters long and can handle an average of 50 thousand vehicles per day. The tunnel has a modern lighting system and an underground pedestrian walkway. The construction was carried out in cooperation with Chinese and Turkish companies without stopping traffic.
Currently, 265 employees are working at the depot. The delivery of new electric buses will create more than 500 new jobs.
The modernization of the city's public transport is aimed at launching environmentally clean and convenient transportation.
