President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Termez to see the practical results of the project to improve drinking water supply in Surkhandarya region through the use of water from the "Topalang" reservoir.

In recent years, systematic work has been carried out in our country to reform the water management system, renew irrigation infrastructure, and rationally use water resources.

This $287 million mega-project being implemented in Surkhandarya region is considered one of the results being achieved in the sector.

As part of this initiative, large-scale construction and installation works have been carried out over the past years. As a result of the commissioning of modern mechanisms, mineral-rich drinking water is now being supplied uninterruptedly to ten districts and the city of Termez in the region.

Eight to nine years ago, centralized drinking water coverage in Surkhandarya was 47 percent. Today, this figure has been increased to 67.5 percent. As a result, the situation with the population's water supply has improved noticeably not only in quantity but also in quality.

The President emphasized the necessity of supporting such large-scale energy, technological, and socially effective projects in all aspects. He drew attention to the possibility of applying such experiences in other regions of the country in the future.

Technically, a major achievement of the project was the construction of 246 kilometers of main and internal networks. Importantly, based on hydraulic calculations, the possibility of transmitting pressure without losses was created. This not only sharply reduced energy consumption but also ensures the stability of the system. Precisely this innovative approach allows water to be supplied to the city of Termez and district centers like Angor, Bandikhon, Kizirik, Sherobod, and Muzrabot without electricity consumption.

Thanks to this initiative, the water supply has been strengthened in 223 neighborhoods today. The hardness level of the water has been reduced by half. The improvement in quality is considered an important factor for public health and the extended service life of household appliances.

The Geo-Information Center established at the "Shimoliy" water production facility created conditions for real-time monitoring of the system. The possibility to identify issues such as pressure drops, emergency situations, and water loss within minutes was born.

Due to the improved water supply, there is no longer a need to use over a hundred groundwater wells in the areas. This reduces the ecological burden.

Furthermore, as a result of the project, 18.4 million kilowatt-hours of electricity are saved annually. This means savings of 18.5 billion soums in financial and resource terms. Connecting consumers to the billing system increased transparency in water accounting and reduced indebtedness.

Another important aspect is that solar panels with a capacity of 6418 kilowatt-hours were installed on a 10-hectare area here.

The head of our state also reviewed a presentation on the region's hydropower indicators and promising projects being implemented in the sector. He set tasks for promptly resolving the remaining water supply issues in the region. In particular, instructions were given on replacing old pump units with energy-saving technologies and modernizing the networks.
