Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known by the alias "El Mencho," was the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and considered one of the principal figures in drug trafficking and organized crime.
Following the spread of news about his killing, vehicles were set on fire, roads were blocked, and armed clashes occurred in several states of Mexico. These incidents are being assessed as retaliatory actions by cartel members.
Previously, the U.S. State Department had announced a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to the drug lord's location. An official investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
