The head of a district department of the Surkhandarya Regional Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change demanded a bribe of 500 US dollars in exchange for altering an officially documented report on the illegal cutting of trees in the area of a local LLC.
Reportedly, he promised to edit the report with the aim of showing a reduction in the damage caused to nature. The official was caught red-handed while receiving the money through an operational measure carried out in cooperation by officers of the State Security Service, the Department under the General Prosecutor's Office, and internal affairs bodies.
Currently, a criminal case has been initiated against him under Part 2, Article 210, subsection "v" of the Criminal Code, and the preventive measure of "detention" has been applied. Investigative actions are ongoing.
