The British BBC corporation has officially apologized to US President Donald Trump. It was noted that in the "Panorama" program broadcast last year, segments from Trump's January 6, 2021 speech were spliced together during the editing process.

This created the impression that he had directly called on his supporters to storm the Capitol.

In the edited version, the phrases "We are going to the Capitol, I will be with you, and we will fight" were placed consecutively without a break. In reality, these phrases were spoken approximately an hour apart in the actual speech.

BBC Chairman Samir Shah acknowledged that this situation created a "misimpression akin to an incitement to violence" and sent a personal letter to the White House. The corporation also stated that the program would not be rebroadcast.

Trump's lawyers had said they would sue for $1 billion in damages if the BBC did not apologize. The corporation apologized but refused to pay compensation.
