The legendary Bollywood playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 92. Her voice was one of the most famous and influential hallmarks of Hindi film music in the 1970s and 80s.
According to family members, she passed away while being treated at a hospital in Mumbai for "extreme exhaustion" and a chest infection.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over her demise. President Draupadi Murmu called this loss an "irreparable loss for music lovers."
Born on September 8, 1933, Bhosle performed over 12,000 songs in several Indian languages during her career spanning more than 70 years.
Although she was often compared to her sister Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away in 2022, she carved her own niche with her distinct style and performances across various genres.
