U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Reuters news agency reported this, citing a source.
The details of the conversation between the presidents have not yet been disclosed. However, this talk took place after U.S. special envoy Stephen Wittekopf held a three-hour meeting in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov described the meeting as "useful and constructive."
Trump wrote on his Truth Social network that the Wittekopf-Putin meeting was "very productive" and that "certain achievements were made." However, he did not provide specific details on the matter.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington would discuss Wittekopf's trip to Moscow and that a statement on the matter would be issued soon. "The statement could be positive or negative," he said.
According to Reuters' source, the U.S. plans to impose secondary sanctions against Russia on Friday, August 8.
