Germany's four famous structures—Neuschwanstein, Linderhof, Herrenchiemsee palaces, and the royal retreat on Schachen Mountain—have been officially included in UNESCO's World Heritage List. DW reports on this.

The nomination was titled "Built Dreams," and these palaces were constructed by Bavaria's King Ludwig II. They are evaluated as a "Gesamtkunstwerk"—a unified work of art.

The most famous structure—Neuschwanstein Palace—inspired Walt Disney's logo. Ludwig II, however, went down in history as the "Fairy Tale King." Yet, the enormous expenses for these palaces became the pretext for labeling him "mentally unfit" and removing him from the throne.

But time has vindicated Ludwig. The palaces, once considered a wasteful investment, have now turned Bavaria into a global tourism hub.
