The year 2024 will be remembered for record-level flight delays in European aviation — flights are delayed by an average of 18 minutes. The most delays are observed in Germany, France, Greece, and Spain.
According to Eurocontrol data, this is due to increased military flights caused by the war in Ukraine, the expansion of no-fly zones, and worsening weather conditions due to climate change.
Additionally, a shortage of air traffic controllers and worker strikes at airports are also contributing to flight delays. In Germany alone, 131 thousand lawsuits have been filed against airlines.
