In Uzbekistan, an utilization fee is being introduced for recycling waste generated as a result of using construction glass. The bill developed by the Technical Regulation Agency was adopted at the first reading by the deputies of the Legislative Chamber on July 1.
According to Akmal Jumanazarov, the director of the agency, speaking in parliament, the annual forecast for glass waste generation in Uzbekistan is 408 thousand tons. By 2024, only 9 percent of this, or 37 thousand tons, will be recycled.
According to Jumanazarov, glass waste that is not recycled is negatively impacting the environment.
“The bill involves the creation of an infrastructure for recycling waste generated as a result of using construction glass and introduces an utilization fee to cover the expenses of recycling,” – said the head of the Technical Regulation Agency.
In preparing the bill, the experiences of the Russian Federation, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan were studied. The project was agreed upon with five ministries and departments and passed legal expertise by the Ministry of Justice.
With the support of 105 deputies voting in favor, the bill was adopted at the first reading. 4 deputies opposed, 5 remained neutral, and 14 members of the lower chamber did not vote.
