Iranian officials have become increasingly concerned about their security following the death of National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani. This was reported by The New York Times.
According to it, other officials are calling each other, asking who the next target might be. According to a second source, there is a fear inside Iran that Israel may not stop until all leaders are eliminated and the current system is overthrown.
According to media reports, Israeli intelligence has called some commanders, mentioning their names, and threatened them and their families if they remain abroad during a possible uprising. The publication also cites a part of a conversation between a Mossad intelligence officer and one of the high-ranking officials of the Iranian police.
According to the publication, security force personnel in Tehran are being relocated to residential buildings, and residents there are being evacuated to protect them from possible strikes.
According to sources, based on Israeli intelligence data, strikes are being carried out on facilities where Iranian special services and military personnel are located.
How was Larijani killed?
Yesterday, on March 17, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Ali Larijani was killed as a result of a nighttime airstrike. Tehran later confirmed this news.
Along with Larijani, his son, deputy, and guards were also killed. In addition, the commander of the Basij popular militia, Major General Gholamreza Soleimani, also became a victim of the strike.
Since the start of US and Israeli military operations against Iran, many high-ranking representatives of the Iranian leadership have been killed. Among them is the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, has been appointed as the new Supreme Leader, but he has not appeared in public since his election. Tehran has confirmed he was injured.
In his statement, Mojtaba Khamenei stated that there will be no respite from seeking revenge for the citizens killed as a result of US and Israeli strikes.
