In Mongolia, an extremely cold winter called "dzud" killed more than 26,300 livestock in the country's western and central Uvurkhangai province in January. This was reported by "Central Asia".
According to a report by the country's National Statistical Office on February 12, at least 11 of Mongolia's 21 provinces have suffered the consequences of the "dzud".
Livestock is one of the main pillars of Mongolia's economy, with almost 40% of the country's nomadic population dependent on this sector. Nevertheless, due to severe and prolonged winters, many livestock are lost every year.
According to the National Statistical Office, by the end of 2025, 58.1 million livestock were registered in Mongolia.
We remind you that these days, extreme weather consequences are also being felt in other states in the region: earlier it was reported that severe snowstorms in Afghanistan led to the death of at least 61 people and injuries to 110 others.
