Italian officials reported damage to railway infrastructure on the first day of the Olympic Games. Reuters reported this, citing the country's Ministry of Transport.

According to the information, police identified three separate incidents in different regions of the country. These incidents caused delays of up to 2.5 hours for high-speed, intercity, and regional trains. A railway structure was set on fire near the city of Pesaro in the Marche region, while in Bologna, electrical cables used for measuring train speed were cut.

Also, a hand-operated signaling device was disabled on a structure on the Bologna-Padua line.

The Italian Ministry of Transport compared these incidents to attacks organized on France's high-speed rail network on the opening day of the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
