Due to the epidemiological risk associated with the spread of the Nipah virus, Uzbekistan has temporarily banned the import of live animals and birds from the Republic of India.

This was announced by the press secretary of the Customs Committee, Husan Tangriyev.

According to his statement, based on the decision of the Chief State Veterinary Inspector of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a restriction has been imposed starting from January 29, 2026, on the import of live animals and birds from all territories of India, as well as on the import of all types of goods under the supervision of the state veterinary service from the state of West Bengal.

This measure was adopted to prevent the Nipah virus from entering the territory of Uzbekistan.

It is noted that, according to data from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and open sources, a complex epidemiological situation related to the spread of the Nipah virus is being observed in the state of West Bengal, India.
