Israel is preparing for negotiations on a new 10-year security agreement with the United States. This was reported by the Financial Times on January 27. It is noted that the negotiations, expected to take place in the coming weeks, aim for Israel to expand arms trade and develop joint military and defense programs.
According to Gil Pinchas, former chief financial advisor of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, cooperation should not be limited to just financial aid. He stated that the annual $3.3 billion in military aid allocated by the US could be reduced in the future.
For reference, in 2016, the US and Israel signed a 10-year memorandum valid until September 2028, which stipulates a total of $38 billion in military aid to Israel. Additionally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated that there are plans to reduce the country's dependence on US military aid in the coming decade.
