French leader Emmanuel Macron proposed holding a G7 summit in Paris, but U.S. President Donald Trump did not support this initiative. In an interview with journalists, Trump said he has no plans to visit Paris during his European tour.
According to sources in the German government, Chancellor Friedrich Merz also will not go to Paris on the day proposed by Macron. After participating in the World Economic Forum in Davos, he is scheduled to go directly to the European Union summit taking place in Brussels.
Trump announced "screenshots" of messages allegedly sent by Macron on the Truth Social network. In them, the French president invited Trump to a G7 meeting in Paris and proposed discussing a number of international issues. However, Trump did not clarify whether he responded to this invitation or not.
It is noted that Donald Trump is expected to deliver a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 21. Friedrich Merz also hopes to meet with him in Davos, but whether this meeting will take place is not yet clear.
