German Chancellor Friedrich Merz participated in the International Kite Festival held in Ahmedabad, India, on January 12. He was officially welcomed at the event venue by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reports Times of India.
It is reported that the festival's opening ceremony took place after the leaders visited the Sabarmati Ashram, one of the important sites associated with Mahatma Gandhi. During the event, Modi and Merz took a ride in an open vehicle, flew kites, and were cheered by spectators.
Also, within the festival area, a life-size replica of the traditional 'pol' neighborhoods from Ahmedabad's Walled City, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, was displayed. Narendra Modi showed the Chancellor the process of making kites and introduced him to the history of kite flying in India.
