Russian actress Vera Alentova has died at the age of 84. This was announced by the Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre, where she served for over 60 years.

According to media reports, Alentova felt unwell during a farewell ceremony held at the theater on Friday. Doctors tried to save her, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Preliminary information indicates the cause of death was acute heart failure.

Vera Alentova performed roles in dozens of films and series, but her greatest fame came from the 1979 film "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears." This picture won an Oscar in 1981.

The actress was the wife of the famous director Vladimir Menshov. They were married for almost 60 years. Their daughter is actress and TV presenter Yulia Menshova.
