It has been revealed that Russia recruited over 200 Indian citizens to participate in the war against Ukraine. BBC reported this, citing The Indian Express.
According to official information, more than 100 Indians have been repatriated so far. Currently, negotiations are underway with Moscow to bring back about 50 more citizens to India.
Relatives of the victims say the recruitment process was carried out through intermediaries. According to them, young people were lured with promises of high salaries, legal work, and comfortable living conditions in Russia, but upon arriving in Russia, they were forced to sign contracts in Russian, the contents of which they did not understand, and were sent to the war zone.
It is reported that on the Russian side, not only Indians but also citizens of Nepal, Somalia, Syria, Cuba, Serbia, Sri Lanka, China, and some Central Asian countries are participating as mercenaries in the war.
