According to Supreme Court press secretary Aziz Obidov, 196 individuals were held accountable for bribery-related crimes during 2024.
Of these, 135 were sentenced to imprisonment, while 61 received lighter penalties such as fines, corrective labor, restriction of liberty, or suspended sentences.
In the first 11 months of the current year, 184 individuals caught taking bribes were tried. According to the court verdict, 114 of them were deprived of their liberty, and 70 were subjected to penalties not related to deprivation of liberty.
For reference, Article 210 of the Criminal Code prescribes a penalty for bribery of a fine from 50 to 100 times the BCA (Basic Calculated Amount), restriction of liberty for up to 2 or 5 years, or deprivation of liberty for up to 5 years.
If the crime is committed repeatedly, by a dangerous recidivist, in a large or especially large amount, or by a group, the term of deprivation of liberty is increased from 5 to 15 years.
