A tourist in China's southwestern Sichuan province discovered more than 20 ancient dinosaur footprints on a rock wall. Their authenticity was later confirmed by researchers from the China University of Geosciences.
According to the research team leader Xing Lida, the most important aspect of the find is that the footprints are preserved across several layers. This allows for the speculation that dinosaurs lived in this area for a long time.
The scientists identified footprints left by theropods — carnivorous dinosaurs, as well as footprints of the chirotherium type characteristic of archosaur-reptiles. Fossilized wood remains — fallen trees and ancient upright stumps — were also found near the footprints.
Experts emphasize that these finds provide valuable information about the ecosystem of that period and will help in a deeper study of dinosaur evolution in the territory of China.
