A major fire broke out at the 16-story "Vjesnik" skyscraper in Croatia's capital, Zagreb. According to "Index", the incident resulted in the burning of archives belonging to several ministries.
93 firefighters and 30 pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire. The building, modeled after the Lever House and nicknamed the "Chocolate Slab," was almost entirely vacant. According to official information, the fire was extinguished in the afternoon of November 18th, but smoldering of metal and concrete parts was still observed.
The Minister of Spatial Planning and Construction, Branko Bačić, visited the scene and confirmed that the fire affected the archives of the Ministries of Labor and Finance, as well as the Tax Administration. It is reported that many floors of the building were vacant.
According to the administration, the skyscraper will be renovated in the near future.
