On October 15, 2025, a 50-year-old man was sentenced to deprivation of liberty by the Pop District Court for criminal cases for participating in hostilities as part of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

According to court documents, Sh.M., 50, went to Russia in April 2025 for work and, motivated by material interest, signed a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense and was accepted into service as a "regular soldier." He underwent military training in the city of Luhansk and was subsequently sent to Ukrainian territory.

During combat operations, on May 9, 2025, Sh.M. was wounded in the leg by a mine explosion and received treatment in military hospitals in Russia. After being discharged from the hospital, he was sent on a 30-day leave, during which period he realized his mistake, and returned to Uzbekistan on July 4.

He voluntarily went to the internal affairs authorities and presented documents confirming his service in the Russian army - a contract, a military dog tag, and medical reports. During the investigation, it was revealed that he received 1 million rubles for his service.

During the court proceedings, Sh.M. fully admitted his guilt and expressed sincere remorse for his actions. The court qualified his actions under Article 154 (joining foreign military service) and Article 154¹ (mercenary participation in armed conflicts) of the Criminal Code.

According to the verdict of the Namangan Regional Court, Sh.M. was sentenced to 3 years and 1 month of deprivation of liberty. He will serve his sentence in a general regime colony.
