In Peru's Machu Picchu area, approximately 150 protesters blocked railway traffic.
They are accusing the railway company of engaging in unfair competition with buses and are demanding that buses be allowed to enter the sanctuary.
The road closure has left 1,300 tourists stranded in the historic town.
According to official reports, more than 800 tourists have been evacuated so far via three humanitarian trains. The government is holding negotiations to resolve the situation.
