A new vote on a motion of no confidence against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is being planned in the European Parliament. European Parliament Speaker Roberta Metsola has informed the deputies about this.

According to a report by the DPA agency, this time the motion of no confidence was immediately submitted by two political forces—the right-wing "European Patriots" and the left-wing "The Left in the European Parliament" factions. This situation is occurring for the first time in the history of the European Parliament.

Previously, a similar vote was held in the summer of 2024. At that time, the members of the European Parliament decided to keep Ursula von der Leyen and her 26 commissioners in their positions: 360 out of 553 deputies expressed confidence in her, 175 were against, and 18 abstained. A two-thirds majority vote is required to express no confidence in the head of the European Commission.
