The main administrative building in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu – Singha Durbar – has been burned down. This event occurred against the backdrop of mass protests against corruption, nepotism, and the ban on social networks that have begun across the country.
Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli was forced to resign. This decision was made after bloody clashes that left 19 people dead and hundreds injured.
The initial cause of the protests was the government's decision to ban 26 popular social media applications. However, it quickly turned into a broad popular movement against corruption among the political elite, leading to the largest unrest seen in recent decades.
Although the government lifted the ban on platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, and X, the youth's discontent did not subside. The "Gen Z" protests continued, and thousands of demonstrators who took to the streets stormed and set fire to the parliament building.
The demonstrators are protesting against the luxurious lifestyle of the country's political elite and demanding that the interests of the new generation be taken into account.
