The U.S. Department of Defense plans to reduce the military contingent in Germany by 5,000 troops.
According to data, the decision was made amid disagreements between Donald Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the Iran issue.
Currently, the U.S. has over 36,000 soldiers in Germany. The German defense minister stated that this decision was not unexpected.
In his posts on social media, Trump criticized Friedrich Merz, rating his work as "very poor," and also stated that Germany has a number of problems concerning migration and energy issues.
At the same time, he proposed withdrawing U.S. troops from Italy and Spain as well.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell stated in a press release that the order regarding U.S. troops in Germany came from Pete Hegseth.
