An important 20-year agreement on electricity between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan has been signed. According to the document, each 1 kWh of electricity will be sold at 3.4 cents. The price will increase by 1% annually — this process will begin from the second year.
Electricity will mainly be supplied during periods of peak demand in Uzbekistan, based on a schedule agreed upon by the operators of the two countries.
Until the Rogun HPP is fully operational, energy will only be delivered during the vegetation period — from April 1 to September 30.
The agreement is designed for 20 years. If the parties do not express their intention to terminate it 6 months before the expiration date, it will automatically be extended for another 10 years.
