Reports about the commencement of demolishing 110,000 homes in Tashkent have spread on social networks. The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services has stated that these reports are unfounded.

“These reports do not correspond to the truth,” — states the ministry's rebuttal.

It is noted that currently, in the country, works on studying and evaluating the seismic condition of the multi-story housing fund are being conducted. These measures are being implemented in a preventive manner with the aim of ensuring the safety of the population.

At present, a case of non-compliance with seismic requirements has been identified in one object without any official documents. Appropriate measures have been taken in accordance with the established procedures for the purpose of ensuring the safety of citizens.

“At this time, there are no decisions or plans regarding the mass demolition of residential buildings,” — the report says.

The Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services asks citizens not to trust unfounded reports spread through unreliable sources and to rely on official information. It also reminds that the legislation provides for liability for spreading false information.

According to the National Statistics Committee, as of January 1, 2025, the number of multi-apartment buildings reached 46,476. Of these, buildings with five or more stories constituted 12,604 or 27.1 percent of the total.

By the President's decree, from June 1, 2024, it has been stipulated to introduce the practice of designing new construction of medical facilities over 5 stories and buildings over 9 stories in seismic activity zones of 8 or higher on the MSK-64 scale with active seismic protection devices, including seismo-isolation and dampers.

The territory of Tashkent city is located in a zone with high seismic potential, where there is a risk of earthquakes with a magnitude of M 6.5 and higher.
