Former President of Iceland Guðni Th. Jóhannesson has taken a job as a guide in the Þingvellir National Park, as reported by Iceland Mirror reported.

Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, who was the youngest head of state in the history of Iceland, finished his presidential term in 2024. That summer, he visited Þingvellir and received an offer to work in the park as a ranger.

Jóhannesson agreed to work as a guide for the summer season of 2025. Before starting the job, he completed a first aid course. Now, at the age of 56, the former president conducts tours and answers visitors' questions.

"Most visitors do not realize who I am, and it's simply wonderful," says Guðni Th. Jóhannesson.

The former head of state emphasizes that working in the national park is a continuation of public service, since Þingvellir is of great importance to the country. Since leaving the presidential post, Jóhannesson has also been teaching history at a local university.
