During the negotiations, the parties extensively discussed the priority directions of Uzbekistan-Russia cooperation. They discussed the urgent issues of the agenda and agreed on the schedule of upcoming events at a high and higher level within the framework of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
The parties emphasized that the cooperation on consular-legal issues between Uzbekistan and Russia is at a high level: yearly consultations are being held on consular matters. Furthermore, close cooperation has been established in the field of migration: a bilateral working group on the organized recruitment of Uzbekistan citizens for work in Russia holds regular meetings every month.
It was specially noted that the regular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation serve to effectively protect the rights and interests of citizens, to improve cooperation mechanisms in the field of consular services, and to promptly resolve issues related to labor migration. This includes pre-departure language and professional training, conducting part of the permitting procedures in Uzbekistan, and ensuring compliance with legislation.
During the negotiations, the Uzbek side drew the attention of the Russian side to the increasing reports about the violations of the rights of labor migrants from Uzbekistan in the Russian Federation and instances of harsh treatment towards them.
Such instances are considered as violations of the rights and freedoms of Uzbekistan citizens working in the territory of Russia, and these rights and freedoms should be guaranteed by the legislation of the residing country, was emphasized.
In this regard, it was specifically noted that it is essential to carefully study the raised issue and to convey the concerns of the Uzbek side to the competent authorities of the Russian Federation.
At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to continue the close cooperation on mutually ensuring the rights and freedoms of citizens of Uzbekistan and Russia in the territories of both countries.
