An international scientific-practical conference dedicated to the 1155th anniversary of al-Maturidi's birth continues in Samarkand.

More than 70 distinguished scholars, muftis, Islamic studies experts, and representatives of international organizations from nearly 30 countries around the world attended this high-level event.

The conference is being organized within the framework of reforms being implemented to strengthen religious tolerance, interethnic harmony, and social stability in society, initiated by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The Advisor on Information Affairs of the Committee on Religious Affairs, Ilhomjon Marupov, expressed the purpose of the event as follows:

— In the new stage of our country's development, consistent reforms are being carried out by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to ensure religious tolerance, interethnic harmony, social stability in society, and to deeply study the rich scientific and spiritual heritage of our great scholars and thinkers.

As an integral continuation of these efforts, the international conference named “Maturidism – Tolerance, Moderation, and Enlightenment Teaching” is taking place on the 29-30th of April, 2025, in the city of Samarkand. This event is very beneficial and necessary for everyone. The deep study and widespread promotion of the rich scientific-spiritual heritage of our great scholars have been elevated to the level of state policy in Uzbekistan. This conference in Samarkand serves exactly these purposes and is arousing great interest in the international community.

Within the framework of the international conference, participants visited the mausoleum of Imam Maturidi. Moreover, through scientific sessions, debates, and exchange of experience, the contemporary importance of Maturidism and its role in peace, tolerance, and social cohesion are being discussed.

The Deputy Director of the Imam Maturidi International Scientific-Research Center, Shahzod Islamov, commented on the significance of the conference:

— This forum is showcasing the deep respect for science, the heritage of our ancestors, and culture from our country to the entire world. Among the organizers are prestigious organizations such as the Committee on Religious Affairs, the Imam Maturidi International Center, the International Center for Islamic Studies, and the Muslim Administration. This further enhances the international prestige of the event.

For your information, today, out of nearly 1.9 billion Muslim populations, more than 750 million are followers of the Maturidi school of thought. This indicates that the heritage of Imam Maturidi is not only of historical but also of crucial contemporary significance. This international conference continuing in Samarkand once again confirms our country’s leading position in the religious-educational field.
