The presidents of Uzbekistan and Pakistan held talks in Islamabad.

During his state visit to Islamabad, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held negotiations with the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, in both a narrow format and with the participation of delegations.

The meeting discussed the current state and priority directions for further expanding multifaceted cooperation and strengthening friendship and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.

The President of Pakistan congratulated the head of state on the successful holding of the first meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council and emphasized that this visit would give new impetus to bilateral relations.

The parties noted the steady development of trade, economic, and investment cooperation. The volume of trade turnover and the number of joint ventures are growing, and cooperative projects are being implemented in key sectors of the economy.

Issues of coordinating joint measures to increase mutual trade volume to $2 billion in the near future were discussed.

Special attention was also paid to the development of interregional cooperation, and an agreement was reached to hold the first meeting of the Interregional Forum in Khiva this year. The closeness of positions on cooperation within international organizations, as well as on regional and global issues, was confirmed.
