On February 5, in the city of Islamabad, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif held narrow-format talks and conducted the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
The meeting identified priority directions for further development of Uzbekistan-Pakistan strategic partnership relations.
It was noted that by the end of last year, mutual trade volume reached almost 500 million dollars. The parties set the task of bringing trade turnover to 2 billion dollars in the near future.
Furthermore, a portfolio of joint projects worth nearly 3.5 billion dollars has been formed in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, light industry, and other fields.
The importance of enhancing transport-logistics ties, including accelerating the Trans-Afghan Railway project, was emphasized. At the conclusion of the talks, Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Shahbaz Sharif to pay a reciprocal visit to Uzbekistan.
