The European Union's inclusion of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on its list of terrorist organizations has sparked a new tension in relations with Iran. In this regard, ambassadors of EU member states in Tehran were summoned to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to "Associated Press," Iran officially expressed dissatisfaction with this decision, calling it an "illegal and baseless step." According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani, reciprocal response measures against the European Union have been developed, and a relevant decision is expected to be made in the coming days.
In response, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, made a statement regarding the recognition of the European Union's Armed Forces as a terrorist organization.
On January 29, the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, announced the official inclusion of the IRGC on the list of terrorist organizations. At the same time, new sanctions against Iran were also implemented. These decisions are linked to the mass protest demonstrations that took place in Iran in late 2025 and early 2026.
