New, highly controversial information has emerged regarding the situation around Gaza in the Arab countries. According to Sky News Arabia, citing Palestinian sources, a certain "understanding" has been reached between Hamas and the US administration: according to it, Hamas could present its weapons and maps of the tunnels in Gaza, and in exchange, be recognized as a political party and receive security guarantees against Israeli attacks.
The source emphasizes that the agreement contains another important clause: it envisions the possibility for Hamas's political and military leaders to leave the Gaza sector if they wish. At the same time, it is mentioned that the US is likely to maintain its position of not striking them or other Hamas leaders abroad.
Another aspect noted in the reports is that Washington is reportedly prepared to include "some of Hamas's police and former officials" in Gaza's new administration, provided they pass a security vetting by Israel and the US. In other words, it seems the discussions are not only about handing over weapons but are also extending to sensitive issues like who stays and who leaves in the subsequent governance structure.
