Muhammad Ali Ahmad al-Haddad, the head of the Libyan Army's General Staff, was killed as a result of a recent private plane crash near Ankara.
According to Turkish media reports, communication was lost approximately 40 minutes after the flight of a Falcon 50 type plane, which took off from Esenboğa Airport in Ankara for Tripoli on December 23. The wreckage of the plane was found in the area of the Haymana district of Ankara province.
The Libyan government confirmed the general's death. Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that an investigation into the aviation accident is underway. There were four other passengers on board the plane along with the general.
Muhammad al-Haddad was the commander of forces in western Libya and played a key role in the process of unifying the country's army. The details of the incident are being clarified.
