The World Bank has approved $250 million for the development of municipal infrastructure and services in Uzbekistan. The funds will be spent under the program "Creating favorable conditions for living and increasing productivity in cities."
According to data, currently more than half of Uzbekistan's population lives in cities, and by 2050 this figure is expected to exceed 60%. The acceleration of urbanization is increasing the need to improve urban planning, utility services, public transport, and waste management systems.
In this regard, a program for the accelerated comprehensive development of territories was launched in 2025, covering 16 districts and cities of strategic importance with a population of 3.6 million people. The program plans to support infrastructure and economic development.
