The energy supply situation in Tajikistan is improving to a certain extent through the import of electricity from Uzbekistan.

According to "Asia Plus," it has been reported that the country is currently receiving up to 2 million kWh of electricity per day. In case the capacity of Uzbekistan's energy system expands, it is planned to also increase the volume of supply.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Energy of Tajikistan has announced that preliminary agreements at the level of energy ministers have been reached with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan regarding electricity supply. It is stated that technical issues related to supply from these countries are currently being resolved.

Tajikistan can only access external markets through the southwestern part of the country — via Uzbekistan's 500 kV "Regar-Guzar" high-voltage power transmission line. To transit energy from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, it is necessary to consider the transmission capacity of Uzbekistan's energy system.

Within the framework of the Central Asian Unified Energy System (UES), the parallel operation of Tajikistan's energy system will commence after the power lines in the north of the republic are connected to the regional "energy ring." The republic's full accession to the UES is expected in the first quarter of 2026.

At the same time, it has been noted that electricity supply restrictions have been in effect in Tajikistan since the end of September. Budgetary organizations and state enterprises are left without electricity after 6:00 PM, street lighting systems and electric vehicle charging stations do not operate during specified hours. The population, however, has supply for several hours in the morning and evening.

It is emphasized that in Dushanbe city, the population is also periodically left without electricity for several hours at a time.
