South Korea's former President Yoon Suk Yeol attempted to incite aggression from North Korea in December 2024 to justify declaring martial law in the country. This was reported by special prosecutor Cho In-seok.

According to the report by special prosecutor Cho In-seok, who is handling the case related to the attempt to impose martial law in South Korea, former President Yoon Suk Yeol planned to create a political and legal basis for his actions by provoking a military invasion from the DPRK.

According to Reuters, the prosecutor emphasized that Yoon Suk Yeol hoped this way to justify declaring martial law and eliminate his political rivals. Charges have been brought against 24 people suspected of involvement in the rebellion under investigation, including the former president himself and five former government members.

According to the version of law enforcement agencies, Yoon Suk Yeol ordered South Korean military drones to be flown towards North Korea. The goal was to provoke combat actions and use this as a pretext to impose martial law in the country. Some drones crashed near the DPRK capital, Pyongyang.

Investigators believe that Yoon, by transmitting military information, "acted in the interests of the enemy." This situation is being assessed as signs of treason and rebellion against the state.

We recall that in early December 2024, against the backdrop of political disputes over the budget, Yoon Suk Yeol unexpectedly announced the imposition of martial law in the country. He explained this decision by the opposition's "anti-state activities."

However, the South Korean parliament did not support this decision, and the head of state was forced to cancel it the next day. On December 14, 2024, parliament announced the impeachment of Yoon Suk Yeol, and in April 2025, the country's Constitutional Court confirmed this decision.

Yoon Suk Yeol was arrested in a second attempt on January 15, 2025. Although the court initially ordered his detention, on March 8, the defense's petition was granted, and he was released from custody. The investigation against the former president is currently ongoing.
