On the night of November 30, Netanyahu, through his lawyers, sent an official pardon request to President Isaac Herzog.

The Prime Minister was charged in 2019 with bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, but has consistently denied the charges.

According to opposition leader Yair Lapid, a person who has not admitted guilt cannot be pardoned.

At the same time, the lawyers say the president could make his decision as an exception to ease political division in the country and strengthen national unity.

President Herzog described the request as having "significant consequences" and stated he would consider the matter "responsibly and sincerely" after all necessary deliberations.
