Employees of the State Security Service's Directorate for the Samarkand Region, in cooperation with the regional customs and internal affairs directorates, thwarted the sale of a large quantity of narcotic drugs during a rapid operation conducted in the Urgut district.
In particular, a previously surveilled individual, a resident of Urgut district, born in 1966, previously convicted for a crime related to the sale of narcotic drugs, was caught red-handed while selling 993 grams of opium to a conditional buyer for 15,000 US dollars.
It was established that this narcotic substance was smuggled into the country from the Republic of Tajikistan.
The information service of the SSS reports that a criminal case has now been initiated against the mentioned individual under Part 2 of Article 246 (smuggling) and Part 5 of Article 273 (transportation of narcotic drugs, their analogues or psychotropic substances...) of the Criminal Code, and the preventive measure of "imprisonment" has been applied.
