The introduction of an additional fine for those who dissolve a marriage has been proposed in Russia. Mikhail Ivanov, a deputy from "United Russia," has proposed introducing a procedure for paying 40 thousand rubles for a divorce and 20 thousand rubles for citizens getting married. According to the deputy, this will help preserve the number of families under limited budget conditions.
Ivanov also stated the necessity of introducing into legislation a norm prohibiting the "discrediting of motherhood and childhood." Discussions on family policy have also intensified at the federal level—a bill is currently under consideration that would force divorced parents to co-parent.
According to statistical data, the number of divorces in Russia has increased sharply in recent years. Although this figure decreased to 644 thousand in 2024, the number of marriages has also declined. Starting from 2025, the divorce fee has been increased from 650 rubles to 5,000 rubles, which is assessed as a measure to "strengthen Russian families."
