The UN Security Council approved a document containing a 20-point plan by US President Donald Trump aimed at the demilitarization of the Gaza sector and ensuring peace. Thirteen out of fifteen members supported the decision, while Russia and China remained neutral without using their veto.
On Truth Social, Trump called the resolution "one of the most important decisions in UN history" and stated that he would lead the "Peace Council" to be established according to it. He emphasized that the council should include "the world's most influential leaders."
According to the plan, international security forces involving Muslim states will be deployed in Gaza under a unified command. They will be tasked with controlling the demilitarization processes and delivering humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, diplomatic sources noted that the resolution does not clearly specify the phased transfer of authorities to the Palestinian administration, which could complicate practical implementation. The document mentions the idea of establishing a Palestinian state, but no deadlines are set.
Prior to the vote, Israel expressed dissatisfaction that the resolution referred to "the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination."
