Amazon has started the process of laying off up to 30,000 office employees. According to Reuters, this decision is explained by the over-hiring during the pandemic period and the need to reduce costs.

The layoffs constitute a small portion of the company's 1.55 million workers, but nearly 10 percent of its 350,000 corporate employees. This is expected to be the largest layoff at Amazon since 2022.

The most changes will affect the Human Resources (HR), Facilities and Services, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) divisions. In some divisions, the layoffs could reach up to 15 percent.

Amazon's head, Andy Jassy, explained this decision with the aim of reducing bureaucracy in the company and increasing efficiency with the help of artificial intelligence. According to him, AI technologies are automating repetitive tasks, allowing for a reduction in the workforce.

Analysts believe this process is a continuation of the "optimization wave" observed among global technology companies, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence is forcing major corporations to reconsider their structure.
