The leader of the "Taliban" movement, Haibatullah Akhundzada, has issued a decision to ban fiber-optic internet services in Afghanistan's Balkh province with the aim of "preventing immorality." Zamon.uz reports on this.
It is noted that as a result of the restrictions, government agencies, the private sector, and residences in Balkh have been disconnected from the Wi-Fi network. Currently, it is only possible to use the internet via mobile networks in the area.
A provincial representative stated that the organization of an alternative network to meet the needs is being planned. However, no clarity was provided on the issue of whether the restrictions will also be applied to other provinces.
At the same time, according to information from the London-based Afghan International Publication, internet services have also been cut off in the provinces of Kandahar, Uruzgan, Helmand, and Nimroz, in addition to Balkh.
