According to the European Asylum Agency, 399 thousand applications were submitted in January–June 2025.

This is 23 percent less than the same period last year. The most applications were registered in France (78 thousand), Spain (77 thousand), Germany (70 thousand), and Italy (64 thousand).

The largest decrease was in Germany – the number of applications fell by 43 percent. However, the main applicants were not Syrians for the first time, but rather Venezuelans (49 thousand applications).

Despite this, the number of positive decisions also dropped to a historical minimum – only one in four applications (25 percent) was approved.
